Simpatico Theatre Project
2007/2008 Season

The Why by Victor Kaufold
Directed by Jennifer Pratt
Second Stage at the Adrienne, 2030 Sansom Street
Wednesday, October 10th - Sunday, October 28th
Preview October 9th

One part modern satire, one part honest investigation, the central story concerns Robert, an American teenager guilty of murdering three of his classmates in what has come to be referred to as a school shooting. Spliced among the dramatic exchanges between Robert and his assigned social worker, a parade of fantastical stereotypes storm in and out, creating a dichotomy between moments of hilarity and sorrow.

"An episodic, highly expressive, contemplative play, equally balanced between satire and sadness."
Variety

"Kaufold's play articulately explores this urgent issue [while] slyly satirizing the unfocused energy of youth and the dwindling attention span of newscasts."
Los Angeles Times

Getting Out by Marsha Norman
Directed by Carol Laratonda
Second Stage at the Adrienne, 2030 Sansom Street
Friday, March 7th - Sunday, March 30th
Preview March 6th

Why walk the line if you can earn a week's pay in a few hours? Arlene prostituted her body, battled all authority figures, and served eight years for manslaughter before age 30. In the system, she was seen as hateful, destructive and beyond redemption. Abandoned by her only friend and desperate for release, she becomes a new woman and gets out. But beyond the prison walls, she may still be trapped. Her mother will never trust her. Bennie and Carl both want to possess her. She is haunted by the girl she used to be and the life she had. Unless she can escape the doubt and temptation, she may be out, but she isn't free.
