David Fertik, Director of Marketing and PR

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Simpatico Theatre, under the leadership of Allen Radway (Producing Artistic Director) and Christine Bater (Managing Director) is excited to announce casting for our upcoming season, which includes IRONBOUND by Martyna Majok and HIR by Taylor Mac.

“Our 2017 Season introduces Philadelphia to the work of two important new voices in the American theatre, in presenting the regional premieres of IRONBOUND by Martyna Majok and HIR by Taylor Mac,” said Allen Radway, Producing Artistic Director. “These plays offer tremendous humanity and insight to heated national conversations over immigration, economic disparity, gender identity/equality, and our evolving American identity, and are a perfect embodiment of Simpatico’s new direction.”

Simpatico is thrilled to enlist the powerhouse, award-winning talents of director Harriet Power and actor Julianna Zinkel in bringing Martyna Majok’s IRONBOUND to life. Harriet comes to us fresh off of the success of 1812’s Barrymore Award-winning I WILL NOT GO GENTLY by Jen Childs, and has previously directed Simpatico’s acclaimed IN A DARK DARK HOUSE by Neil LaBute (four Barrymore nominations, including Best Overall Production). Julianna joins us with a impressive list of regional credits, spanning from her tremendous turn in Theatre Exile’s BLACKBIRD to her most recent success in Act II’s MAURITIUS. Julianna is also a company member of People’s Light and Theatre Company where she has appeared in nearly twenty productions. Artistic Director Allen Radway (Simpatico’s IN A DARK DARK HOUSE and LONG DAY’S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT) rounds out the cast with the electric talents of Mitchell Bloom and newcomer Joseph Acquaye. Veteran lighting designer and multiple award-winner Jerold R. Forsyth leads the incredibly talented creative team including Colin McIlvaine, Natalia de la Torre, and Daniel Kontz.

HIR by Taylor Mac will be helmed by Simpatico’s Associate Artistic Director, Jarrod Markman who most recently directed last season’s Barrymore Award winning, world-premiere production of Time Is On Our Side by R. Eric Thomas. Leading the cast are two of Philadelphia’s most notable actors, Marcia Saunders as Paige and Kevin Meehan as Isaac. Marcia, A People’s Light member since 1976 is also the recipient of Emmy Awards for her narration on the Discovery Channel’s Teacher TV and is a recipient of a Barrymore award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Claire in A Delicate Balance. Kevin, a Company Actor at The Wilma Theatre and New Paradise Laboratories, joins Simpatico with a wide range of regional credits including Don Juan Comes Back from Iraq at The Wilma and most recently John at The Arden. Emerging devised theatre-maker, Eppchez! and the terrifyingly hilarious talent of John Morrison fill out the cast as Max and Arnold respectively. The creative team includes Christopher Haig, Alyssandra Docherty, Elizabeth Atkinson, LeVonne Lindsay, Scott Mcmaster, and Charles Conwell.

The performance schedule for both shows is as follows: Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8:00pm; and Sundays at 2:00pm. Performances will be taking place at The Louis Bluver Theatre at the Drake. Located at 302 S. Hicks St, in the historic Drake Tower. Tickets start at just $15 and can be purchased online at

Simpatico Theatre, an award winning theatre located in the heart of Philadelphia, was formed in July of 2005 by five Portland Stage Company interns who shared a belief that theatre has the power and potential to be a force for direct social change. In 12 seasons, Simpatico has produced 25 full scale productions, most notably including last season’s Barrymore nominated commissioned world premiere of R. Eric Thomas’ TIME IS ON OUR SIDE.
